A paradise called Botswana
Botswana is a beautiful country in southern Africa and one of the least densely populated countries in the world but with one of the highest economies and living standards in Africa.
With a small population, Botswana has almost 40% of the territory made up of national parks and nature reserves that offer large areas where animals can live in freedom.
This incredible wealth of protected areas means that Botswana is home to the world’s largest concentration of African elephants, of which the highest concentration is found in Chobe National Park.
The Kalahari Desert is an essential element of Botswana; the semi-arid sandy savannah of the Kalahari desert in fact covers about 70% of the national territory, giving life to some of the most fascinating landscapes in the world.
In such an arid environment, water is a precious element, rainfall is a rare event and is considered a blessing; it is therefore not surprising that the local currency, the pula literally means rain in the local language of Setswana.
Among the natural spectacles of Botswana there is undoubtedly the Makgadikgadi Pan, one of the largest salt marshes in the world; the pan is located in an area that was once covered by the massive Makgadikgadi lake.
Speaking of incredible natural phenomena, one cannot fail to mention the Okavango Delta.
The Okavango Delta is a huge inland delta located in the Kalahari desert of Botswana, formed by the Okavango River in a desert tectonic depression, the delta, the largest inland delta in the world, is an endorheic basin that loses its water for evaporation and transpiration.
The Okavango Delta is covered with marshy vegetation and is populated by numerous mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish which make it one of the seven natural wonders of Africa and named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Africa changes you forever, like nowhere in the world. Once you’ve been there, you’ll never be the same again. But how do you begin to describe magic to someone who has never tried it? How do you explain the charm of this vast and dusty continent, whose oldest roads are elephant trails? Could it be because Africa is the place of all our beginnings, the cradle of humanity, where our species first stood in the savannahs of long ago?
